As we are prepping for the onslaught (or trickle in some areas) of costumed little goblins looking for a treat or two, I am reminded that the day following Halloween is All Saint’s Day when we remember those fearless believers who have gone on before us and triumphed in faith. Take a moment this weekend to remember those who have encouraged your faith, who have run the race and received their crown of victory. In your moment of remembrance you might also examine the places God might be calling you as a disciple of Christ.
This Sunday is going to be a HUGE day of celebration!! First, we get an extra hour of sleep – time change!!! I hope everyone is looking forward to worship as we gather around the table and share in sacrament and sacrifice our gifts of love, charity and grace. Matthew 23:11 reminds us that “The greatest among you will be your servant.” We shall together discover our service to those in our communities and beyond. Our pen bin is getting full but we will find room for more! Following worship we will have a brief congregational meeting for the purpose of electing elders and deacons from the slate of nominees prepared by the Nominations committee.
From 11:15 to 12:15 all are welcome to gather in our fellowship hall for a multi-generational “Pre-Advent” workshop. I am thrilled we are offering this event. This workshop will include a light brunch as we gather around tables to share our hearts about Advent and Christmas. Our table time will include information about Advent, discussion starters and even an activity for the young ones (in age and in heart). Following table time we will have a presentation about Advent and Christmas including thoughtful ways to celebrate without all the commercialism. We will explore traditions of old and learn about new ideas for the season. Children will have the option of staying in the fellowship hall or being dismissed for games and activities especially for them.
Finally, we got the word this week from Pastor Lupe that more families are in need of homes in the areas around his church and Futuro. We are the last church working in that area for these families so we have pledged to send a Mexico Mission building team on November 14-16, 2014. Please consider signup up to join us on this worthwhile trip!
In His Service,
