Ordering the Disorder of Personal Grief and Loss
We will all experience loss in our lifetime which can create a sense of chaos and emptiness. Loss comes in many forms – our jobs, empty nest, moving, the death of a loved one, changes in friends and even changes due to age. Learn some practical ways that we can experience a new order when putting the pieces back together.
Session 2: September 16 – Dr. Robin Clardy
I Never Know What to Say
In times of loss and grief for those close to us we want to help but often don’t know what to say or how to begin. Sometimes just a shoulder to cry on is enough and others times more support is needed. Discover how to best to respond to those you love who are struggling through grief.
Session 3: September 23 – Richard McGuire, MD; Colleen McGuire, RN and Jodi Brown, RN
Planning for End of Life Decisions
Before a health crisis the best gift we can offer those who care for us is an advanced healthcare directive. During this workshop, you will become familiar with your choices about health care in the event you are unable to make those choices for yourself including advanced directives and hospice care and how to make those choices known to your family and caregivers.

Understanding the differences between a will and a trust and how to execute a durable power of attorney can seem daunting but it doesn’t have to be. Come find out about the details that can bring you peace of mind including ordering your legal affairs, making final arrangements and planned giving.
Session 5: October 7 – Rev. Lissa Smith, Pastor
Funeral and memorial services are as much for those we have left behind as they are for the one who has departed. A funeral or memorial service is both a celebration of life and a witness of faith. How would you like to be remembered? What is your favorite hymn or song? Explore your options for your own service and record your preferences so when the time comes your service will be a blessing to those who gather to be comforted and remember.
Rev. Dr. Robin Clardy, Pastoral Counselor and Consultant for Life Span Ministries. As a pastor and former hospice chaplain, Robin is able to provide individuals and families spiritual and emotional support as they journey through difficult challenges of life, such as death, caring for aging or ailing loved ones, and loss in its varied forms.
Dr. Richard McGuire, MD. Dr. McGuire is a board-certified physician specializing in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and has practices in La Mirada and Placentia. A knowledgeable and experienced doctor with a caring nature who offers guidance and support.
Colleen McGuire, RN. Colleen serves as an Advanced Oncology Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange and specializes in the coordination of care for those undergoing treatment for cancer including home care and hospice.
Jodi Brown, RN. Jodi is a registered nurse at CHOC Children’s Hospital in Orange specializing as a Surgical Nurse caring for children of all ages and their families as they face often difficult medical challenges.
Dana Mitchellweiler, JD. Principal Attorney of Mitchellweiler Law Corporation specializing in business and estate planning. Dana has a breadth of knowledge in the area of estate law and shares his experience as a presenter for a variety of seminars and courses.
Steven Ditch, CFP. Steve is a dual registered financial advisor with Harrison Tax Service and is a highly rated consultant for multiple investment agencies.
Michael Solo, CFP. Mike is a dual registered financial advisor with Diversified Investment Services and has been specializing in estate and wealth planning.
Kate Moncreif, Funeral Pre-planning Manager. Kate serves clients of Precoa, a funeral pre-planning and pre-need center who helps connect clients with the services they will need prior to needing them.
Rev. Lissa Smith, Pastor. Rev. Smith has been serving the canyon community for nearly 30 years through pastoral care and leadership and has vast experience in helping families plan services for their loved ones.
