I just arrived home from the annual pastor’s retreat hosted by our Los Ranchos Presbytery which was a wonderful event in beautiful Malibu. While driving one evening I noticed a home that still had all it’s Christmas lights and decorations up and on, perhaps they were celebrating the entire season of Epiphany or they wanted the Christmas spirit to linger just a wee bit longer. Every so often we have moments in our lives we hope will last a wee bit longer and last Sunday would be one of those moments for me. My heart is still filled with joy and gratitude for the installation celebration we shared last week. I am eager to have the collective good will and faithful desires of our congregation linger as we step into our future together.
Thanks to an energetic congregation, a fearless fellowship committee, a myriad of talented musicians and colleagues and friends who made the installation service and the reception a testimony to gracious works of God in our lives.
This Sunday we again have the opportunity to gather in celebration for the gracious deeds of Christ as we share our hopes, dreams, disappointments and trials. Our encouragement will come from Mark 9 as Jesus is transfigured on the mountain with Moses and Elijah with his three closest disciples as witness. On Sunday the bright light of Christ shall shine in our lives.
Following worship you are invited to join the family of faith for pancakes in the fellowship hall as we make preparations for the season on Lent on our own “Fat Sunday” party. It is also “Parents Day Out” for any of our weary parents who need a break, bring your kids and take a few hours off!
You can make this Monday a complete holiday from work by joining us at Don Jose’s for Mission Monday any time from 11 AM to 9 PM.
As a reminder, this Wednesday, February 18 is Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of Lent and we will worship together and impose ashes at 7 PM in our sanctuary.
In His Service,
Rev. Lissa Smith
