Weekly Chocolate Update

To adapt a phrase from Forrest Gump, “Worship is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you might get.” For me last Sunday began as if it was going to be one of those nasty rum raisin nougat days but turned out to be a buttery rich caramel and dark chocolate day instead…you just never know what you are going to get when the holy spirit is involved. As a follow up the vertigo has abated and life seems to be settling down.  If you missed what everyone was talking about on Facebook you can check out the worship service on our youtube channel, just click here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pqml_zyJi8g&feature=youtu.be.

An amazing congregation inspires amazing worship and this Sunday will be no different as we hear the voice of the prophet Samuel prepare Israel for their first king.  The people of Israel were pushing God away again wanting so much to be like the other nations around them and so rejecting God as King. Samuel warned the people of the hardships they would face with a human king but they were unwavering in their plea. Come enjoy the renewal of your mind and spirit by the voices of our youth as we bless them in their adventures to come.

Look out for information regarding a new Bible series we will be offering during worship and in a variety of other programs throughout the church beginning at the end of August using the bestselling book, The Story. Our session and staff are very energized about this program and we look forward to sharing more and more information as it becomes available.

I am pleased to announce that the Presbytery of Los Ranchos has concurred with our session’s request to confer the honorary title of “Pastor Emeritus” on Rev. Dr. Michael D. Landreth pending congregational approval.  The session of CHPC therefore has called a congregational meeting for Sunday, June 14, following worship for the purpose of voting on this request.

It is not too late to join the Bunko craze on June 6 at the home of Dennis and Judi Sepulveda. $15 fee includes food, beverage and fun!  Call Joan Coy directly on her cell at 714-325-8833 for late registrations.

Don’t forget to keep saving those 1 gallon milk and water jugs for this summer’s VBS program.  You can drop them at the church office anytime!

In His Service,

Rev. Lissa Smith
