Never a dull moment, right? That is how most of our lives go, just when we think we have a lull in the action another potential for havoc is waiting around the corner. But that is one of the reasons we have each other – even when all of our lives seem chaotic all at the same time we receive encouragement and support from our family of faith. Breathless might be how you feel, in constant motion and sometimes we view church as just one more stop on the frenzied weekly highway.
But church was never intended to be a burden but a blessing. The New Testament gatherings that exploded into the church as a witness to the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are the same gatherings of faithful believers that happen today. These gatherings are places of hope and restoration, places of peace and vitality. Each week we endeavor to create a space – a physical space and a temporal space that allows for relaxation, reflection and rejuvenation of our minds, our bodies, our spirits. The act of worshipping together, the waves of music, the chatter of children, the raising of prayers, the proclamation of the Word, the touch of another, can be a spa experience for the soul, re-aligning us with God’s perfect desire for our lives.
This Sunday is our opportunity to gather with all God’s saints and sinners in a place and space designed by God offering forgiveness, redemption and inspiration. John reminds us that as adopted sons and daughters of the King we are called beloved children God (1 John 3:1) and we are to celebrate adoption. Let us continue our Eastertide celebration of the resurrection!
