Oh my goodness it is a wonderful thing to be part of a family of faith like ours! So much life is bursting forth this spring and Easter season! This Sunday we enter Holy Week with palms of celebration and victory raised high only to learn that victory will come in a completely unexpected way. From the triumphant entry into Jerusalem we will walk with Jesus as he endures a week of passion and confusion ending with unimaginable pain and suffering – all so that we might know God’s love for us and life abundant.
This Sunday in worship we will focus on Jesus’ example of service and humility as he continued to show his disciples what service to others in the name of Christ will mean through the washing of the disciples feet. In keeping with a theme of service we will be commissioning our Mexico Mission team and connecting them with prayer partners at the end of worship.
Following worship on Sunday our Children’s Ministry team has planned a hopping good time for all ages at our Palm Sunday breakfast and Egg Hunt beginning in our fellowship hall. Everyone is encouraged to join the festivities.
As we draw deeper into the passion of Jesus Christ all are invited to worship on Maundy Thursday as we commemorate Jesus’ last supper with his disciples. A simple soup dinner will be served at 6:30 PM and worship will begin at 7:00 PM.
In coordination with our sister churches: New Hope, St. Mark and First Orange we will together observe Good Friday with a worship service at 12 noon at 1st Presbyterian Church, Orange. Each church brings their unique contributions. All attendees are encouraged to bring articles or pictures that speak to violence in our world as these will be used in the service.
Want to help our mission and community service work? Join us for lunch or dinner or anytime between at Don Jose’s for our monthly Mission Monday, this week on Monday, March 21.
We are one of the few churches that host an Easter Sunrise Service and we need to get the word out. Easter services are a great way to introduce our church to the community. Beginning this Sunday you can pick up some door hangers about our Sunrise Service to share with your neighbors.
So where can you get connected this week? At the Palm Sunday breakfast, Maundy Thursday worship and Good Friday worship.
So where can you help serve this week? Be a Mexico Mission Prayer Partner (just hang out after worship and we will get you connected), or at Mission Monday at Don Jose’s or make a commitment to put a door hanger about our Easter Sunrise Service on some doors in your neighborhood.
In His Service,
Rev. Lissa Smith
