As we welcome October we do so with a windy reminder of the Holy Spirit! Ahh, the joys of the Santa Ana winds ushering in our autumn season! I will admit I am not a fan of the devil winds that plague our canyon in the fall, I battle with dry skin, dry hair, dry throat, debris in my eyes…yuck…but the winds also bring a welcome reminder of the power of the Holy Spirit, that God is still on the move in our world, whipping up inspiration and clear vision for the future. Come, Holy Spirit, come!
This Sunday will be a welcome time to gather for worship as a family of faith as we celebrate together with our brothers and sisters in faith around the world the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper on this World Communion Sunday. This is a very fitting expression of support for those Christians we know around the world who are persecuted daily for their faith. On Sunday we will continue our exploration of our ministry structure as we are guided by the words of Paul in Romans 12 as he lays a foundation for faithful living in community.
As our community of faith grows we have many ways for everyone to get involved. Our Bowling League begins this Sunday at 5:30 PM at Concourse Bowling, even if you aren’t on a team you can come cheer us on and share in the fellowship. Giving a pint of blood at our deacon Blood Drive is a great way to help those in need. Or creating a trunk full of treats for children in our neighborhoods at Trunk or Treat on October 25 is a great way to connect with the community.
Our Facilities Committee has just recently completed a security audit for our campus and has determined we are overdue to “re-key” our facility. Please be advised that we will have new locks and keys for the facility beginning Tuesday, October 7. If you need access to our facilities for your programs or events please notify the church office and appropriate arrangements will be made.
In His Service,
Rev. Lissa Smith
